About Me

I hope to provide you with a little bit of my history and then a feel for who I am today and what I love to do. The history which is easy starts with the fact that I was born and raised in southwest Missouri in the Springfield area. Originally I was from Springfield proper but then we moved to the “country” in Strafford, MO about 15 miles to the west. I think that it is safe to say that I really enjoyed growing up in the Ozarks. If you have not been there you should definitely go visit sometime. After high school I joined the military (Air Force) just as my Father and my Grandpa (on his side) had done before. Some have asked me why I joined (pretty common question). Most just assume that it was because it is what my father had done but I think they are wrong. From an early age I loved aircraft and the power of the military jets consumed me. So I joined and stacked bombs for five years.  During my time in the service I was stationed at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach Florida, RAF Lakenheath just north of Cambridge England, and a regular deployment to PSAB in Saudi Arabia around 1998.

After the service I entered my academic life by enroling in the physics program at Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) in Springfield Missouri. I was there from 2000 to 2004 where I transitioned to the physics graduate program at the University of Kansas in Lawrence Kansas. I have been there till now where I am hopefully moving to get my thesis rolling.  I am currently performing a search for a low mass Standard Model Higgs particle at the D0 detector at Fermilab near Chicago.

Outside of my academic pursuits I love to interact with the outdoors, hang out with my friends, and partake in the occasional movie (ok, I really love to do that).  My friends and I take off at least once a year to hit the slopes in Colorado for sking and hiking.  My current passion is definitly caving.  I have been doing several trips a month right now to various caves in and around central Missouri.  Along with falling off snowboards (I have got much better) and caving I also enjoy baking, lying on my couch, and talking on the phone.

  1. Hi Justace

Thought I’d look you up. Found you easily with Google search. How are you doing? Everything sounds OK from what you list and mention on your blog.

Long time now since you were in UK!

I’m happy enough now working as a construction worker with steels in the London area. All effort going on learning this as a trade and learning engineering principles – what I meet I study. Avoid any involvement with computers these days – my miniMac just sits there and does what it should – run ports of unix programs – emacs, etc – so do my emails, diary notes, website, etc and that’s about it.

    Hey Justace,

It’s G-Lo. I worked with you in 2004 at D0. I was an internship trainee from Mexico.

It’s good to know you are doing great!
